Kirkcudbrightshire Advertiser, 18th June 1926 (extract).

The funeral took place yesterday of Mr David Richardson Paterson, cycle agent, Castle Street, Kirkcudbright, who passed away at Dumfries on Monday. He had been ill for some time. He belonged to a well know Kirkcudbright family, being a son of the late Mr Robert Paterson, weaver, High Street.

Mr Paterson and his brothers were noted rifle shots. When 11 years of age he joined the Kirkcudbright Battery of the old Ayr and Galloway Garrison Artillery as a band boy, but afterwards was a member of the Galloway Rifles for 24 years, retiring with the rank of sergeant in 1908 when the Territorial Force came into being.

He then joined the Kirkcudbright Battery, but 5 years later found him again in the K.O.S.B.s. Sergeant Paterson was mobilised again with the 5th K.O.S.B. on the outbreak of war, but he was not sent oversea, and he served on various home stations where he took part in the training of recruits.

Mr Paterson was for many years in the postal service, but retired to devote his attention to his cycle business. He is survived by Mrs Paterson and six of a family.
